Climate Risk & Vulnerability Assessments (CRVA)
For physical assets, projects and portfolios.
Understand how physical climate risks could affect your assets—and which actions deserve priority.
Facultas Advisory helps institutional investors, asset owners and developers assess how physical climate risks could affect assets, operations and investment decisions. We translate findings into priorities for due diligence, project development, asset management and adaptation.
Climate assessments that support decisions
A climate risk and vulnerability assessment (CRVA) examines more than exposure to climate hazards. It considers how an asset could be affected, the consequences for its operations and objectives, and the responses that deserve attention.
We structure each assessment around your decision, the characteristics of the assets and the information needed to act.
Who we support
We work with institutional investors, investment managers, financial institutions and asset owners, as well as developers and asset-management teams.
Engagements can address a single property or project, a group of operating assets, or a portfolio requiring an initial assessment of priorities. We also contribute defined climate-risk workstreams alongside engineering, environmental and other specialist advisers.
Climate risk assessments by asset type
Infrastructure projects and operating assets
Assess climate exposure and vulnerability during project planning, development, upgrades or ongoing operations. Findings can inform resilience measures, maintenance priorities and further technical studies.
Real estate assets and developments
Evaluate how physical climate hazards could affect properties, building operations and critical services. Support acquisition due diligence, development decisions, refurbishment and longer-term asset planning.
Industrial and commercial facilities
Examine risks to sites, equipment, operations and dependencies such as power, water and access. Identify priorities for adaptation and continuity planning.
Physical asset portfolios
Screen assets consistently to identify concentrations of exposure and priorities for deeper assessment. Portfolio screening helps direct attention and resources; detailed asset-level work examines the vulnerabilities and potential consequences behind those initial findings.
When to commission an assessment
A CRVA can be particularly useful when you are:
- Acquiring an asset or undertaking investment due diligence.
- Selecting a site or developing a new project.
- Planning capital expenditure, refurbishment or asset upgrades.
- Reviewing resilience across an existing portfolio.
- Addressing a defined request from a lender, investor or project partner.
- Responding to disruption or updating an earlier climate assessment.
Our approach to climate risk assessment
Define the scope and decision
We clarify the assets, locations, project stages and critical dependencies to assess, along with the intended use of the findings and relevant stakeholder requirements.
Assess hazards and exposure
We review climate information, scenarios and time horizons appropriate to the assets and their expected life. Hazards considered may include flooding, extreme heat, drought, wildfire, coastal hazards and severe weather, according to location and relevance.
Evaluate vulnerability and consequences
We combine climate evidence with asset information and input from operational and technical teams. We consider sensitivity, existing protective measures, adaptive capacity and critical dependencies to assess potential consequences for asset performance, service continuity and investment objectives.
Prioritize adaptation and further analysis
We identify material risks and potential responses. Recommendations distinguish actions that can proceed from questions requiring additional data, specialist modelling or engineering investigation.
Support action and reassessment
We translate findings into priorities, responsibilities and review points, helping teams incorporate climate risk into investment decisions, asset management, risk reporting and governance processes.
Your climate risk assessment deliverables
Depending on the agreed scope, deliverables may include:
- A climate exposure and vulnerability assessment.
- A prioritized risk register with supporting rationale.
- A record of data sources, scenarios, assumptions and limitations.
- Adaptation options and priorities for further investigation.
- An action plan with responsibilities and reassessment points.
- An executive summary explaining the implications for your decision.
The depth of assessment is proportionate to the assets, their potential consequences and the decision at hand. Financial quantification and specialist technical studies are scoped separately where required.
Why Facultas Advisory
An investment and risk perspective
We connect asset-level climate findings to investment due diligence, risk oversight and capital allocation. Our work helps decision-makers understand the implications, uncertainties and priorities for action.
Senior-led advisory
Hind Abdo leads the advisory work, with specialist contributions defined according to the mandate.
Clear, traceable judgment
We make the reasoning behind conclusions visible, including uncertainty, information gaps and the limits of the assessment.
Practical next steps
We help teams turn findings into assigned actions, priorities for further investigation and review points that fit existing investment and asset-management processes.
Working with your team
We can undertake a defined CRVA, contribute to a wider due-diligence or project team, or review an existing assessment.
Facultas leads the risk assessment and advisory work, drawing on climate-data, modelling, engineering and other specialists where the agreed scope requires their expertise. Roles, responsibilities and technical contributions are defined at the outset.
Based in Montréal, Facultas provides climate risk assessment services in Québec and across Canada, and supports selected international mandates. Services are available in English and French.
Discuss your assets or project
Tell us what you own, manage or plan to develop, where it is located and which decision the assessment needs to support.
We will help define a useful scope and the expertise required.
